Since Head Coach Tim Ottmann took over the Ponderosa Wrestling Program in 1990, Ponderosa has had a strong tradition of building successful wrestlers at both the state and national levels. By 1994, Ponderosa was a state top 10 team. In 1995 and 1996 the team finished as state runners-up.

In the past decade Ponderosa has won 8 team state titles, including 6 consecutive titles leading into the 2008-2009 season, and back-to-back state titles in 1997/1998. In that same time Ponderosa wrestlers have won 25 individual state championships and placed in the top 6 at the state tournament 95 times.
