Thoughts on 8 Straight
Posted on March 11th, 2010 No commentsEvery year has its own story. Winning this title as a team was unique in the fact that we wrestled better than we have ever wrestled in some tournaments, and underachieved in other competitions. We had our best showings ever at Reno (placing 3rd), and the Clash (Going 4-2). We underachieved at A-West (placing 3rd) and lost to a tough Mountain Range team in a dual in the beginning of the season.
We also had some individuals that accomplished amazing things. Sam Jones placed in State for the first time and looks for his first state title next year. Derek Good finished his career here with a runner-up finish, becoming a two time state placer. Austin Gabel won his second state title and looks to become one of only a handful of 3 time State champs in Pondo history. Steven Kelly graduates with 2 State Championships and placed at State 3 times. Steven will be heading to Colorado School of Mines where he will continue his fine career. Finally, Jacob Snider became only the 16th 4 time State Champion in Colorado history. More notably, Jake is only the second Wrestler in the history of Colorado to win 8 State Championships (4 individual and 4 team). Snider is also wrestling in College as he heads to CSU-Pueblo. Congratulations Men!!!
Through it all though we won and lost with class. I am proud to be a part of the the machine that is Ponderosa Wrestling! Look for a busy off-season as we now set our sights on number 9! There are several wrestlers who are ready to break through.
Most think next year is the year to get us…We accept the challenge!
