The program continued its league dominance at all levels over the weekend.  On Saturday the Junior Varsity won the Continental league Championships in convincing fashion.  It looked like a dual between Ponderosa and Heritage in the championship finals but we were able to win 6 out of the 7 matches against them!  The lower level team capped their amazing season with this accomplishment…Great Job Men!

The varsity also won a league title after we defeated Heritage Friday evening.  But first on Thursday we had to take care of a little business with Chaparral.  It is always interesting when we wrestle Chap, not for events that happen on the mat but off it.  The most exciting part of the night was how crowded the Gym was, they actually had to turn people away at the door!  Our boys continued the undefeated streak against Chap and soundly beat them 49-22.  This is our 17th consecutive League Championship!!!

Next up…Regionals at Adams City High School on Friday and Saturday.

This was another successful week for Ponderosa Wrestling!

On Monday the team took one step closer to winning our 17th consecutive league title by defeating Mountain Vista 55-12.

Over the weekend the Junior Varsity placed 2nd at the Douglas County Invitational.  Great Job Guys!

Special recognition should be given to Cameron GrandPre, Will Martinez, Casey Scheidt, J.D. Robinson, Thad Gallegos, and Josh Eller for placing first; Connor Crane and Jeremiah Turco for placing second; Zach Simpson for placing third, and Tylor Jakino for placing 5th.
The Varsity traveled to Garden City, Kansas to compete against top ranked teams from Colorado, Kansas, and New Mexico.  The team is starting to peak as we won the tournament with 8 tournament placers.  John Lewis placed 5th, Sam Jones and Gary Walliser took 4th, Austin Olson and Steven Kelly were runners-up, and tournament champions were Jacob Snider, Austin Gabel, and Derek Good.
Next up for everyone is Chaparral at home on Thursday night.  The following day the JV starts their league tournament and the Varsity duals @ Heritage at 3:45. This is a re-scheduled dual and the only time they could do it.
The JV has only a week of competition left and Regionals for Varsity is only two weeks away!  Please help your son achieve his goals by ensuring he is eating properly and getting enough sleep.

  • State of the Program – Ponderosa Wrestling

Posted on January 27th, 2010 by Coach McNellis No comments

As President Obama gives his State of the Union Address, it makes me think about the State of Ponderosa Wrestling.  Here are a few key points about the state of our program:

    1)  Our Junior Wrestling program is as strong as its ever been.  Coach Estrada is amazing!

    2)  Our Junior Varsity is as strong as ever.  Coach Mole and Rinaldis have built the best JV in the state.

    3)  Our Varsity is peaking at the right time.  We are not even close to where we will be at State.  As in years past, we are going to improve dramatically in the next few weeks.

    4)  Ponderosa Wrestling loves pressure!  There are many secrets to how we handle pressure, but our confidence will be evident in February.  Nothing gives me greater pleasure as a Coach then to see our boys exceed expectations at State while other teams underachieve.

    5)  We have the best support system in the Country!  Between our fans, students, and parents our boys know how special they are.  Wait until next Thursday evening when we hold our last dual of the season at home.  The house will be rockin!

    6)  Continuing off of point #5, our boys are humble and classy.  They are often tested by other teams who know the only way to beat us is to try and get us to loose our composure.  We are too seasoned and focused to let these weak attempts effect us.

The Countdown to the Big Show has begun.  Expect more great things from an amazing 2010 Ponderosa Wrestling squad!
